Today, April 2nd, marks World Autism Awareness Day. INDIGEO VOLO would like to take a few moments to both highlight the unique and broad range of neuro-divergence within our community, and touch on the difficulties people on the spectrum can face.
In an ever-changing world with an endless amount of seemingly unspoken social rules, knowledge and societal norms, people on the spectrum often encounter difficulties and obstacles which may not seem obvious, or even apparent to those around them. As the strengths that individuals on the spectrum possess are as varied as the colour spectrum itself, so often they bring a fresh perspective and help us to see the things often ignore or unnoticed, and we do not wish to make the risk of generalizing or stereotyping an already often mis-spoken for community.
In an already marginalized society, the kink community, INDIGEO VOLO knows that it’s imperative that we not only make neuro-divergent individuals feel welcome, but that we work to include them at our events; we even have some serving on our Board of Directors! Sharing in the kink community spirit and bringing together to weave the threads of our society would not be nearly as bright, invigorating, or enjoyable without people of all propensities and proclivities.
